Southside Composite Squadron

Welcome and thank you for visiting the official website of Civil Air Patrol’s Southside Composite Squadron (MER-VA-060).  Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF) and performs three congressionally mandated key missions:  Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs for teenage youth.  CAP maintains squadrons in all 50 states including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

Today, CAP handles approximately 90 percent of all inland search and rescue missions, with approximately 75 lives saved each year. Our members are generally the first on the scene transmitting satellite digital images of the damage within seconds around the world and providing disaster relief and emergency services following natural and man-made disasters. Both our adult and cadet members are provided with top-notch, year-round professional development training opportunities as well as training in emergency services and survival skills.  CAP also maintains aircraft equipped with the most advanced technologies available for search and rescue.

In addition, CAP is dedicated to teaching a new generation of youth about aerospace and its impact on our future.  CAP’s Cadet Program offers youth some of the finest leadership training the nation has to offer allowing each cadet to progress at his or her own pace through a 16-step program by mentoring them in aerospace education, leadership training, physical fitness, and moral leadership.  The program is open to both male and female youth aged 12 and above.

The Southside Composite Squadron (Unit: MER-VA-060) is located just outside of Richmond, Virginia with headquarters based at the Chesterfield Regional Airport.  Our squadron generally meets every Tuesday night from 6:45pm to 9:00pm.  With over 120 members (adults and cadets), our squadron is prepared and trained to respond to the call of our community, state and nation.  If you think you might be interested in becoming a part of our elite organization or would be interested in enrolling your son or daughter in our cadet leadership training program, we would welcome hearing from you.  Please visit the contact section of our website for more information.
